Not so long ago, this small town was alive with activity.  Meggett was the center of economic prosperity for miles around.  It served not only as a place to conduct business, but more importantly, as a gathering place for the townspeople and others to personally enjoy a special relationship of community living.  Nestled in the idyllic beauty of the rural Lowcountry, it was a testimony to the values of an energetic and farsighted group of involved citizens.  Each person contributed to, but also depended upon, the contributions of neighbors for the common good.  And the town prospered.

Sadly, later the town fell victim, just a hundreds of other small towns, to the exaggerted lures of the 'big city.'  Much was lost as merchants closed their shops and businessed relocated.  Meggett lost not only buildings, but its most valuable resource--many of the citizens.

Realizing this loss, many are now seeking to recapture the beauty of rural living. The leadership of the Town of Meggett has recognized the responsibility and unique opportunity of recreating the town and its special qualities.  The Town Council has provided controls for future growth, not to inhibit development, but to ensure that the hightest standards of quality will be maintained.  By offering the residents and visitors a 'hub' once again, for social and economic opportunities, Meggett will serve as a model for other communities and small towns to preserve, promote, and enjoy the rich heritage of rural America.

YOU can be a special part of our small town's history!  You are invited to become involved in Meggett 1925--as a volunteer, by providing in kind services, or with financial support.  Your help will result in the vision becoming a reality.

Meggett 1925 Capital Campaign Membership

Membership contributions to the Meggett 1925 project provide the year-round operational support that will make the work of the vision possible.  Your annual support will enable Megget 1925 to serve both the community and visitors, providing a place where Meggett's heritage can be shared with future generations. Your operational support covers all administrative and promotional costs, allowing all funds contributed to the building fund to be used specifically for that purpose. Contributions can remain anonymous if you choose.  All contributions are tax deductible.  Checks should be made payable to Meggett 1925 and can be delivered or mailed to Town of Meggett, 4776 Hwy 165, Meggett, SC 29449.                                             Thank you for your support.
